The Lower East Side Tenement Museum in New York City is dedicated to the presentation and interpretation of the variety of immigrant and migrant experiences on Manhattan's Lower East Side.
An actual tenement and immigrant portal for almost two centuries, the museum once was the home to an estimated 7,000 people from more than 20 nations between 1863 and 1935.
This National Historic Site is best explored by one of many guided tours the museum offers.
